Forty-four police and gendarmes have been "injured or bruised" Saturday night of violence on the margins of the match between Bastia and Marseille in Ligue 1 opening, said Sunday the Ministry of Interior. "Ten officials of the Republican Security Companies, 34 gendarmes were injured or bruised and 8 of them treated at the hospital" when the violence occurred around the stadium Furiani (Haute-Corse), said the Interior in a statement.
The clashes occurred "before and after the football match between Sporting Club Bastia and Olympique Marseille," according to the Interior which ensures that police and gendarmes "acted with coolness and restraint."
In a statement, the minister, Bernard Cazeneuve, claims the "determination (of) relevant officials, local and national, to put an end to such violent behavior, especially against forces that must be respected. "
Violence last season
In April, the prefecture of Haute-Corse banned the fans from the nearby club AC Ajaccio to go to Furiani for the derby between the two clubs.
Last season, the Ligue 1 championship had experienced violence, especially in November, when eight stewards of the Allianz Arena in Nice were injured before a match against Saint-Etienne.
