Cluster Biotechnology: Algerians and Americans take note.

PHRMA-500x214.jpgThe famous Algerian-American mega biotech complex of several billion dollars, to be installed at the new city of Sidi Abdallah, seems revived.

A delegation of the Association PhRMA (Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America), which represents the major pharmaceutical companies activating in the field of biotechnology in the United States, was received this morning by the Minister of Health and Population Hospital Reform, Abdelmalek Boudiaf.

According to a ministry statement, the two sides discussed the development of partnership in the field of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and implementation of early actions which contribute to the creation of a biotechnology cluster in Algeria (Algeria Vision 2020 Project ). We are therefore in the active phase of this mega project unique of its kind in North Africa and the second in Africa.

The US delegation led by the executive director of PhRMA in the MENA region, Mr. Samir Khalil, was accompanied by the Chairman of the Board of Algerian-American Affairs (USABC), Smail Chikhoune, trying for years to bring investors US to Algeria.

For their part, PhRMA representatives were keen to highlight the fact that their presence in Algeria stems from their desire to establish a lasting presence in a growing market, in terms of "universal access enjoyed by the Algerian population ". In this perspective, Dr. Samir Khalil informed the Health Minister that "many advances have been made since the last meeting in May 2015 and that regular monthly meetings of thematic groups allowed to draw an implementation program practical content of the memorandum of understanding signed between the Algerian government and the PhRMA group in San Diego (USA) in 2014 ".

Both parties have thus agreed to undertake a "preliminary assessment" of this implementation to the end of first quarter 2016. Reflecting the interest of American companies to invest in Algeria, the executive director of PhRMA Algeria officially invited to participate in the next World Congress of Biotechnology (Bio 2016) to be held next June in San Francisco in the USA.
